On July 28, the City of Chula Vista Council voted to extend the City’s Eviction Moratorium to August 31, 2020. In early March, the City Council first passed the moratorium and it has been extended each month since then.
The moratorium applies to all residential properties, including single-family homes, rooms rented in single-family homes, duplexes, condominiums, income-restricted apartments (i.e., affordable housing), market-rate apartments, and mobile homes and commercial tenant spaces in Chula Vista. Note the moratorium only applies to evictions for nonpayment of rent or mortgage payment due to impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. There is no moratorium on lawful evictions for other just causes, like a violation of lease terms.
