The County will establish a drive-thru testing site at Aquatica beginning next week. Details are still being finalized. This will be the same format as the previous drive-thru location at Oxford St:
- Appointment only
- 9 am – 3 pm
- Approximately 80-90 appointments daily
- Only the PCR swab test (not antibody)
At today’s County briefing, officials thanked those who are following public health orders, wearing a face covering and maintaining social distance. County officials also shared information about El Prez bar/restaurant in Pacific Beach. The location was shut down for violating health orders by the Public Health Officer. A video was played from Thursday showing a large crowd in the restaurant, people standing in groups, most without masks, and little to no social distancing. The location will be closed pending submittal and approval of a re-opening plan.
Guidelines for in-person religious services will be released by Monday. We also anticipate additional State guidelines pertaining to Stage 3 reopening to be released next week.
During the week of May 18, Development Services Department staff have:
- Averaged over 135 building inspections daily
- Completed over 65 plan checks
- Accepted over 80 new construction permit applications – total construction value $0.97 million
- Issued 90 construction permits with a total construction valuation of $4.8 million
- Managed 646 active code enforcement cases
- Opened 8 new code cases
- Closed 18 code cases
- Supported SWAT Operations on illegal cannabis business located at 2518 Main St.
Communications staff continues to promote important information on social media and on the city website re: COVID-19 updates, public health orders, guidance for being in public at parks, city operations, etc. Numbers of followers, engagement, and impressions continue to increase. We see the most engagement on Instagram.

As of May 22, Global cases are 5,159,674 and 335,418 deaths; United States cases are 1,588,322 with 95,276 deaths; California, 88,480 cases with 3,604 deaths. In San Diego County, there are 6,434 cases and 242 deaths. There have been 1,209 residents admitted to the hospital with 361 of those admitted to the ICU. As of May 21, there are 950 cases in Chula Vista.
