Construction Alert: I-805 Sweetwater River Bridge

Upcoming Closures for I-805 Between Sweetwater and Bonita Roads

As part of the I-805 South Corridor Enhancement Projects construction, SANDAG and Caltrans will be conducting nightly outside lane closures of southbound I-805, between Sweetwater and Bonita roads, as well as the southbound on-ramp to the Sweetwater Road exit. Closures will take place on Wednesday, September 18, and Thursday, September 19, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

These closures are required for the safety of crews conducting work in the area and will be in effect for the duration of construction.  Motorists will be provided with advanced notice of approaching work zones via illuminated construction signs. Detour signage will be in place to direct motorists around these nightly closures.

Motorists traveling along I-805 can expect construction noise and heavy equipment within the project area. Your patience during construction is appreciated.
Pile Driving Work Continues
This week, crews placed a crane in the center median of I-805, just south of SR 54. This crane will be used to install essential support structures known as piles. Piles are large steel pipes that are driven into the ground then filled with concrete to support large structures such as the new Sweetwater River bridge.

Pile driving operations will begin on Monday, September 16, and are expected to continue through early October. Nearby residents, businesses, and motorists traveling along I-805 can expect intermittent construction noise and heavy equipment within the project area. Your patience during construction is appreciated.
